A GREAT WAY to honor the birth of a Dream and our legacy to fulfill it.

JOIN US as we learn and understand our place in a movement that continues.

As a part of the CommUNITY Education Program’s commitment to diversity education, we will once again be sponsoring a Civil Right’s Immersion Trip. In past years we have traveled to civil rights landmarks and museums in Birmingham, Montgomery, Memphis and Washington DC.

This year we are excited to be traveling to Lawrence, KS to visit among other places the Haskell Indian Nations University, Haskell Cultural Center and other historical sites. On the return trip we will also spend some time at Cahokia Mounds which had the largest know early civilizion in north of Mexico. Additional details are still being ironed out and will be available on this web site and emailed to participants as they are confirmed.

Prior to the trip there will be a mandatory meeting (TBA). The day of the trip we will gather in Foster Formal Lounge Thursday, January 15, 2009 at 7:30 PM. The bus is scheduled to depart at 8:00 PM. We will travel through the night and start our adventure as soon as we arrive (we will check into the hotel later that afternoon). We should arrive back in Bloomington around 10:00 PM Sunday, January 18, 2009.

Thanks in part to generous donations from several campus departments, the cost of this trip is $25 and includes lodging for two days (quad occupancy), transportation, and museum admissions and educational materials. You will be responsible for food costs and any other expenses. We can accept cash or checks made out to the "CommUNITY Education Program." The $25 is a non-refundable registration fee.

Registration is a TWO-step process. First you must follow the link below to complete an on-line registration. Second, you must drop off your registration fee ($25) to Barry Magee at 801 N. Jordan, Suite 221, to confirm your spot on the bus. You will not be confirmed for the trip until payment is made.

  Step One: PARTICIPANT REGISTRATION FORM

If you have registered on- line but have not submitted your money you will receive a note indicating that you do not have a reservation on the bus. If you have submitted your money you will be notified of your reservation or the fact that we received your money after the bus was full in which case we will place your name on a waiting list.
